Boo - Hoo Halloween Home Decor re-post

Halloween Home Decor (Boo!)

I Know this was already posted for Halloween but, I redid it and I never posted those pictures so I'm doing it now.  I came across a whole bunch of projects that never got posted so I may post them for the time being.  I know Halloween is 9 months away but, it is my favorite time of year.

So, with that said here it is.  Hope you like it as much as I did.  I can't wait to proudly display it in our new house this Oct.  Yippee!!!!  I'm going to have to make some more stuff like this. Since I will have more places to decorate.

As always thanks for looking and for supporting me  I really appreciate it.

I'm entering this into the Creative Inspirations Paint Challenge : Inspired by Halloween  please feel free to get in on the challenge fun.

Ribbon Christmas Trees

Okay I know what your thinking.  Ahhh Michelle, that isn't a Ribbon Christmas Tree.
I know but, while I was looking for those pictures on my computer.  I stumbled upon these from when
my family and I went to a local park to look at their Christmas display.

Here's just a few of the ones that came out pretty good.  I was hard to take them from a moving car.  We had a car up our bums so we really couldn't stop.

Now onto the Ribbon Trees like I promised.

I just think that these are super cute.  I actually saw this idea on a flyer that I picked up someplace.  I did it my own way but, I can't take full credit for it.  I saw these and I thought they were darling and I had to make them.

They are made from 2 direrent sized Styro-foam cones.  They may not look like it but they use alot of ribbon.  I wasn't paying attention to the sizes that I used so I apologize for not knowing.

Glittery Christmas Balls

So, my daughter and I made some really cool glitter filled Christmas Balls.
I took some pictures of them.  As we made them.  I picked these Glass Balls up in Michael's  I got two boxes of them and, then on Black Friday I picked up two more boxes of them when I was in Jo-Anne's fabrics.  They came in a box of six.

Supplies
Glass Ornaments
Rubbing Alcohol
Floor Wax
Glitter
Paper Towels

Instructions
1.  First your going to want to take the tops off of the Glass ornamnets.

***Because these are glass and that sometimes the inside edge can be sharp.   I would more then highly reccommend that an adult do this.  The rest of the project and child can do as long as they are supervised by a responsible adult.***

2. Next your going to want to pour some of the Rubbing Alcohol into the ornament I would reccommend covering the opening with a paper towel, then you want to swish and swirl the Rubbing Alcohol around the inside of the ornament.  Make sure that you get it all around in there because the Alcohol is what's going to take the impurities out of the ornament.  If there's any oils in there that will get rid of it.

3.  Then pour the Alcohol out into a cup, sit it aside.  Let the ornament air dry before going on to the next step.

4.  Once the ornament is air dried then your going to take the floor wax.  I've seen where people have used Future but, I actually used a brand that I found in the Dollar Store and, it worked just fine.

5.  Pour some of the Mop & Shine into the Ornament.  Cover it with the paper towel and, swish and swirl it around .  Just like you did with the Rubbing Alcohol.  Again taking care to make sure that you cover the entire inside of the ornamment.  Because that is what the glitter is going to stick too.

(You'll notice the towel that we were using to protect the table and, the sheer look of concentration.  I'll let you in on a little secret.  This picture was staged.  One of us held the ornament and the other one poured the wax.)

*** I should mention to you to do your best not to get wax on the outside of the ornament.***

6.  Next you want to pour the wax out of the ornament.  Again making sure that you get most of the excess out.  You don't want any pools of wax in there.

7. Next your going to pour in the glitter.  Don't be stinggy with it either.  This is the one spot where more is better.  You can use what kind of glitter that you want.  I used my Martha Stewarts Glitters.  I just love those colors.
8.  Again you want to cover the opening and swish and swirl the glitter around in the ornament.  Make sure you cover the entire inside of the ornament.  If you want go crazy and add more then one color.  For this ornament we only used the Garnet color.  One of my favorites, Basically because it's my birthstone.  (17 more days to be exact!!!)

(Isn't this color just so Christmasy?)-I love it!!!

9.  Next you want to dump out all of the excess Glitter.  Make sure you get it all out .  You'd be surprised at where it hides in the ornament.  What we did was get as much out as we could and then we lightly tapped the ornament on a paper plate.  Then we dumped that excess into a small cup so we could make an everything ornament.

10.  Then once you get it all out place the ornament back into its container leaving the top off.  You want to do that so that it will dry out.

11.  We left ours uncapped for a week.  I wanted to make sure that they were good and dried out.  Once they were dried I chose different ribbons that I tied into bows .  That's how we hung them up on the tree.

Here are just a few extra pictures that I took.

-----Thank You so much for stopping by and for checking out Our Glass Ornaments.  I know the Holidays are over but,  it's something you can keep in mind for next year.

So I'm trying out to be on Karelj's Design Team and I'm entering her Jan. 2011 Challenge

January 2011 is all about Flamingos

Okay so this is what I was doing on New Year's Eve.  I got the creative bug and I couldn't stop.  I watched Dick Clark and I quilled up this adorable little pink flamingo girl.  Once I got started I couldn't stop until I was finished.  It really didn't take that long.  Maybe the most 2 full hours because I would do some and then stop and then do some more.

I couldn't be happier with how this turned out.  I just surprised myself at how cute this came out.

I did this for Karelj's Design Team, well to try and get one of the 8-10 spots that she's going to have.  Wouldn't that be exciting?

Also, I'm throwing my hat into the January 2011, Challenge again.  We can use the same thing for both entries.  (Remember all last month I was bugging everyone to vote for me?--- Well, come Jan 15 thru 31st I will be at it again.....)  All you have to do is go to her site and look for the heading January Challenge and find my picture and place your vote.  It's super easy peasy!!!

Okay now back to my pretty in pink gal....

I apologize for not taking pictures while I was doing this.  I started after I had it set up and it was glued.  So here's that.

okay now here's the close-up of the head

Now I actually changed this up alittle bit for when I did it.  I changed the beak around.  I only needed to use two of the black pieces and for the neck I only used 1 row of the pink I just staggered them differently.  I wanted my flamingo to have the classic S shaped neck and not the one that was above.

Here's the wing that I did.

I waited about 36 or so hours before I started to mess with her because I didn't want her to fall apart on me.

I will give you some basic directions for how I did this.

Supplies
Styro foam board 12X12
Elmer's Permanent Tape
3 -  small foam pop dots
2 - Black Marqui shaped quills
1-White Marqui shaped quill
1- Yellow Tight rolled quill
1-D Shaped Quill for the foot
1/2 of the Black Quilling strip in half for the legs
55 - Pink Marqui shaped quills (8 of them are for the wing)
1-Black Shadow Box Picture Frame
1 Picture for back round (I chose a pond with a lake )
Tombo glue

Directions

1. Roll 1 tight circle and use a pin to hold it in place on the styro foam board.  When your closing the quills use the least amount of glue .  Less is more at this point of the game.
2.  Roll the White Marqui Quill and attach that to the Styro foam board.
3. Continue doing this with the Black and the Pink Marqui Quills
4. Arrange all of your pieces into the flamingo shape.  (Keep the wing off to the side, you will glue it on later)
5. Once you have a pieces all arranged how you want them.  It's time to glue them together.  glue around all of the edges .
 6.  Leave it dry at least over night.  I let mine dry for about 36 hours.
7.  Print out the picture your going to use for your back round.
8.  Use the Elmer's permanent double sided tape to help keep your flamingo together and to adhere it to the back round.
9.  Use the 3 Small Pop Dots to adhere the wing.
10. Re-esemble the picture frame and ENJOY!!!

Makes a great gift for any Flamingo Enthusiest!!!!

I know this last picture is dark but, it's a pretty good close-up of the Flamingo.

Hope you like it.  I would love to hear what you think of her.

Thanks so much,
Michelle
